“Youth for a New Generation” competition

EUMETSAT is about to launch a new generation of Meteosat satellites, which will provide data from the next two decades. These MTG satellites will accompany the professional career of many African that are Youth today! We want therefore to fully involve Youth in this Forum, and in order to give an opportunity to Youth to participate to the Forum and showcase their activities, EUMETSAT is opening a specific competition.

The objective is to promote innovative use of satellite data and products for meteorological, hydrological, climate or environmental applications in Africa.

The competition is open to any individual between 15 and 35 years of age (as defined by the Africa Youth Charter), which resides in Africa or is a national from an African Union or a EUMETSAT member states. A favourable view will be provided to joint projects/initiatives undertaken by African and European youth in partnership or to projects/initiatives undertaken by African youth.

Youth are invited to submit a description of their project/activities/initiative to the Organising Committee (ufa@eumetsat.int, subject “Youth for New Generation”).

Best proposed contributions will be selected for a plenary presentation (session 8) or for a poster exhibition. Sponsorship to support participation of the Youth to the Forum can be also provided.

The Submission shall be sent to the Forum Secretariat before Friday 27 May 2022, by email at ufa@eumetsat.int, subject “PUMA Cup”).

The competition is inspired by the definition and objective of the African Youth Charter of the African Union Commission (see https://au.int/en/treaties/african-youth-charter), which “provides strategy and direction for youth empowerment and development activities at the continental, regional and national levels across Africa”.

It is also responding to the Declaration of the last EU-Africa Youth Summit, an integral part of the Joint Africa-EU Strategy, which call for support to Youth-led initiatives in the area of Environmental Preservation and Climate Change (see https://www.africa-eu-partnership.org/en/about-us/africa-europe-youth-summit)
